Award-winning casino operator William Hill will donate their entire profits made from the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, to a charity based in the United Kingdom (UK) called Support Ukraine.
This year’s Eurovision Grand Final was hosted by the UK, as last year’s winners (Ukraine) could not host the event due to the ongoing war in their country.
Following an announcement made by William Hill on a LinkedIn post last Friday, it has emerged that the operator will be donating £200,000 ($250,000).
The donation will help provide much-needed food and supplies to families from Ukraine forced to flee their country to the UK following the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
In comments made following the announcement, William Hill spokesperson Lee Phelps said that the William Hill team is proud to be able to make this donation.
Phelps added that the money will help thousands of Ukrainians in the UK and their families who remained in their homeland.
William Hill’s spokesperson concluded that the Eurovision should remind us that just as the fighting is present, so is the resilience shown by Ukraine, and the effort made to help.
Meanwhile, a Support Ukraine spokesperson expressed gratitude for all the support shown to Ukrainians from the people of the UK, as well as for hosting the Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine’s name.
The spokesperson added that Support Ukraine is especially thankful to William Hill for donating 100% of the profits from last Saturday’s Eurovision.
Echoing Lee Phelps’ comments, the UK-based charity’s spokesperson explained that the money will provide medical aid and medical evacuation vehicles to Ukrainians on or near the front line.
